CREW

Community Re-entry for Women (CREW) is the result of our partnerships
with the South End Community
Health Center and The
Suffolk County House of Correction. The program provides an avenue
for reintegration for female offenders with the goal of preventing homelessness
and reducing recidivism. Included are intensive case management, mental
health screening, job readiness and life skills instruction and job and
housing placement upon discharge. Critical to this and all Project Place
programs are our wraparound support
services to address barriers in finding and obtaining employment and
housing.

Work Skills & Employment Services
.
A job-training program allowing clients to become accustomed to work while developing basic skills in a classroom and group setting. The program runs for 90 days and is divided into three intensive one-month sessions and includes our wraparound support services to address barriers in finding and obtaining employment and housing. Individuals who begin at the same time in the program continue through each phase with this cohort. The three sessions include:
1. Work Ready: These Employment Readiness classes are a basic, intense four-week job preparation program including 20 hours of classroom training. These classes begin every month and are required to continue in the program or work in one of our social enterprises. During this period participants complete a full career assessment including job skills and interests while engaging in a curriculum created to generate customer service and life skill acquisition and development through class work, one-on-one coaching, assignments, presentations, mock interviews and homework. This segment focuses on building self-confidence; generating successful thinking; managing work and family; improving literacy, math and vocabulary; and computer skills. In addition, local business people, board members, and other Project Place volunteers offer workshops on job-related topics.
2. Customer Service and Business Skills: The curriculum intensifies in this phase with a focus on customer service skills/interpersonal training, culminating with clients being administered the National Professional Service Certification, an accredited exam developed by the National Retail Federation Foundation. This session also includes employment-related workshops and classes with additional work on computer, literacy and basic math skills, as well as intensive life skills where clients are learning to address their personal barriers to employment.
3. Practicum: In the third month, clients do internships, integrate experiences and class work and do intensive job search. Students acquire job search skills through classroom instruction while integrating internship experiences (i.e. as receptionists, cooks) into life lessons on work-related topics. Clients can enter advanced training programs for either additional education or specialized certification or extend training through employment in one of our social enterprises.
